Intimacy and Emotional Independence

Intimacy, or closeness in marriage, requires emotional independence. Emotional independence means that you don't need another person to make you feel ok.


That doesn't mean you don't need support, validation, acceptance, love and connection. Everyone does. It means that you are the primary source of all of that for yourself. Your marriage  is a secondary source of that.


Why is that necessary for intimacy?


Marriage will activate your insecurities, emotional wounds, needs and hurts that you've brought along from you're life up to marriage.
